36-year-old sentenced to 18 months for stabbing colleague

Date:

On 29 January, the Court of the British Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) in Dhekelia sentenced a 36-year-old foreign national to 18 months and one week in prison after he was found guilty of causing actual bodily harm.

According to an official statement from the SBA, the incident occurred on 11 September last year when the suspect was arrested and taken into custody following a serious stabbing attack on a colleague at a construction site in Asomatos, within the British Bases territory.

The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck, abdomen, and arms and was hospitalised at Limassol General Hospital for five days, undergoing surgical treatment for his injuries.

SBA Police Chief Martyn Ball described the case as a serious incident that was thoroughly investigated, leading to a successful prosecution.

He further emphasised that “violence is a global concern, and this outcome demonstrates the dedication and commitment of the British Bases Police in identifying such crimes and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.”
