30-year-old arrested over molotov assault at Apollon FC

Date:

Police arrested a 30-year-old man Monday night in connection with the violent molotov assault on the Apollon club last Thursday.

The suspect was detained under court warrant for offences including rioting and arson.

What happened

Late on 27 November, a group of hooded individuals – reportedly organised AEL Limassol supporters – stormed the Apollon club in Limassol ahead of the 30 November derby.

They threw bangers and molotov cocktails, fought with Apollon fans inside, then fled while setting fire to a rubbish bin and damaging 11 parked cars (broken windscreens and windows). Another vehicle had its rear windscreen smashed with a fire extinguisher.

Investigation update

Two men aged 19 and 21 were arrested for the molotov assault on Saturday. The 30-year-old is the third suspect in custody.

Limassol CID continues examining evidence, including seized items from a previous search (pickaxe handle, spiked broom handle, gloves and helmet).
