29-year-old credited as the hero who saved Koilani from the fire

Date:

The village of Koilani has expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to extinguishing the wildfire that recently threatened the community and surrounding areas of mountainous Limassol. Their special thanks go to one man: 29-year-old Agisilaos Theofanous, a resident, whose swift and selfless actions are credited with saving the village and have earned him the title of Koilani fire hero.

According to the local community council, Agisilaos acted entirely on his own initiative, using his personal tractor to battle the flames throughout the night, working relentlessly to keep it from reaching homes. “If it weren’t for Agisilaos staying through until morning,” they said, “Koilani would have burned.”

The village has also extended warm thanks to the Forestry Department, Fire Service, Civil Defence, and the Limassol District Administration for their rapid mobilisation and crucial role in containing the fire.

In a statement, the community emphasised that during moments of crisis, it is the solidarity and self-sacrifice of both citizens and emergency services that bring hope and preserve the life of our villages.

Agisilaos’ courage has already earned him widespread admiration, with many calling him the Koilani fire hero- a title he never asked for, but truly deserves.
