Nearly two kilograms of cannabis seized
A 63-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after police seized almost two kilograms of cannabis during an operation carried out by the Cyprus Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN).
Officers stopped the suspect’s vehicle for inspection on the Zygi–Mari road on Thursday afternoon. During a search of the car, they discovered approximately 500 grams of cannabis, leading to his arrest for a flagrant offence.
Drugs hidden inside dog cage
A subsequent search of farmland and premises used by the suspect in the Zygi area uncovered a further three nylon packages containing around 1.5 kilograms of cannabis.
According to police, the drugs had been carefully concealed inside a metal dog cage.
Ammunition, cash and mobile phones seized
Police later searched the suspect’s home, where they recovered 339 shotgun cartridges.
Officers also seized two mobile phones, which will undergo forensic examination, and €743 in cash. Authorities are investigating whether the money is linked to proceeds from illegal activities.
