A Cyprus weather warning has been issued by the Department of Meteorology, alerting the public to intense weather phenomena expected this afternoon.
The yellow warning is in force from 13:30 to 17:00, with conditions set to deteriorate across several regions of the island.
Rain, storms and possible hail
According to the forecast, developing clouds are expected to bring local showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly affecting mountainous areas, inland regions, and southern and eastern coasts.
Hail is also possible during thunderstorms, increasing the risk of sudden localised impacts.
Winds will blow south-westerly to westerly, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally strong up to 5 Beaufort along southern coasts. The sea will be slight to a little rough.
Cooler night with frost in Troodos
Tonight, the weather will become mostly clear, although increased cloud cover may persist along coastal areas. Winds will ease to weak levels, up to 3 Beaufort.
Temperatures will drop to around 8°C inland, 12°C on the west coast, 10°C on other coasts, and 3°C in higher mountainous areas.
Frost is expected to form locally on the highest peaks of Troodos.
Unstable conditions continue tomorrow
Tomorrow will start mostly clear, but cloud build-up during midday and afternoon is expected to bring local showers or isolated storms, particularly in mountain, inland, and southern/eastern coastal areas.
Temperatures will rise to around 22°C inland, 20°C on the coasts, and 11°C in higher mountains.
Outlook for Holy Week
On Holy Wednesday, the weather will remain mostly clear, with some increased cloud cover in the western half of the island and a chance of isolated afternoon showers in mountainous areas.
On Holy Thursday, rain is expected in coastal areas during the morning and evening, while showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely inland and in the mountains during the afternoon.
On Good Friday, intervals of sunshine will alternate with cloud cover. Temperatures will see a slight rise on Wednesday, followed by a small drop, remaining close to seasonal averages.
