Today’s forecast: hot inland temperatures but relief expected soon
Temperatures are expected to reach 39°C in inland areas today, according to the Cyprus Department of Meteorology, with a gradual cooling trend anticipated over the weekend.
A mass of warm air is affecting the region, keeping conditions mostly clear. This morning, local fog and low cloud will lift, giving way to largely sunny skies. In the afternoon, isolated cloud build-up is expected over mountainous areas.
Winds will initially be light and variable at 3 Beaufort, later shifting to mainly south-westerly to north-westerly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 5 Beaufort in windward areas. Seas will be slight to moderately choppy.
Forecasted highs today:
- 39°C inland
- Around 32°C in the south, east, and north coasts
- 30°C on the west coast and at higher altitudes
Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear, though patchy fog and low cloud may develop locally. Winds will remain south-westerly to north-westerly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and seas will stay slight to moderately choppy. Temperatures will drop to around 20°C inland and along the coast, and 19°C in the mountains.
Looking ahead, Saturday will be mostly sunny. On Sunday and Monday, while the weather will generally stay fine, localised cloud in the afternoon could bring isolated showers, especially in mountainous regions.
Temperatures will gradually decline over the coming days, returning to average seasonal levels.
