Unsettled conditions affect the island
The weather forecast today remains unsettled as weak low pressure affects the area, while a new low-pressure system is expected from tomorrow evening, bringing periods of rain, isolated thunderstorms and snowfall in higher mountain areas.
Southwesterly winds will be noticeable over the coming days, with thin dust suspended in the atmosphere and only minor temperature fluctuations expected.
Today’s weather
Today’s weather will be mainly cloudy at times. Initially, isolated showers are possible over the mountains, western and northern areas. From late afternoon, localised rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected. Snow may fall in the higher mountain regions.
Winds will blow mainly southwesterly, initially light at around 3 Beaufort, strengthening in the afternoon to moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slight to rough.
Temperatures will rise to around 15°C inland, approximately 17°C along the coast and 7°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight
Tonight, conditions will remain mostly cloudy with periods of local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Snow is expected in the higher mountains.
Winds will remain mainly southwesterly, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, while the sea will be rough. Temperatures will drop to around 7°C inland, 9°C along the coast and 3°C in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.
Weather outlook
On Wednesday, the weather will be partly cloudy with isolated showers or thunderstorms at times, as well as snow or sleet in the higher mountain areas.
On Thursday and Friday, conditions will remain partly cloudy with isolated showers, while sleet or snow is likely again in the higher mountains.
Temperatures are expected to drop slightly on Wednesday, followed by a gradual rise from Thursday, reaching slightly above average climatic values by Friday.
At the time of issuing the forecast, snow depth at Chionistra stood at 17 centimetres.
