Vrysoules hit-and-run suspect sent straight to Assize Court

The 48-year-old man accused of attempting to murder a 61-year-old in Vrysoules, Famagusta district, has been committed for direct trial before the Permanent Assize Court in Famagusta.

The trial is scheduled to begin on 3 February 2026.

The court ordered the accused released on bail conditions.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of 8 August 2025 on a village road. According to police, the two men had a verbal argument. The 48-year-old then got into his car, started the engine and deliberately struck the victim, causing serious injuries that required hospitalisation.

A warrant was issued after testimony implicated the suspect. He was arrested on 25 November 2025 and held in custody until today’s hearing.
