Videogate: “Not all evidence will be revealed, keep expectations low”

Date:

With interest but also caution, lawyer Elias Christou is awaiting the findings of the investigations into the Videogate case and the so-called “Mafia State” allegations, stating that major revelations should not be expected.

Speaking on the television programme Mesimeri kai Kati, Christou said there is significant public anticipation regarding the outcome of the criminal investigation.

Claims of limited criminal liability

Regarding the Videogate investigation, Christou noted that leaked information suggests there may be no criminal liability involving associates of the President, while attention appears to be focused on a specific businessman.

He questioned the involvement of private intelligence firm Black Cube in the case, raising concerns about the motives behind its engagement and suggesting that private interests may be involved.

Calls for caution over expectations

The lawyer urged the public to keep expectations low, stating that not all aspects of the case are likely to be revealed.

He questioned whether details involving organisations such as Mossad and Black Cube would ever become fully known, suggesting that certain elements would remain undisclosed for “obvious reasons”.

Christou also said that the key to uncovering the truth lies in access to the original video material, adding that without it, full clarity would not be achieved.

Despite his reservations, he expressed confidence in the criminal investigator handling the case, describing him as experienced and thorough.

Possible legal outcomes

Commenting on potential prosecutions, Christou said any legal proceedings emerging from the Videogate case would likely involve a private company rather than individuals linked to political figures.

He added that he doubts all relevant information will be provided to investigators by the entities involved.

Reference to “Mafia State” case

Turning to the “Mafia State” allegations linked to the book of the same name, Christou said the revelations published so far are serious but have not yet led to major developments.

He noted that some cases have proceeded to court while others remain pending, with mixed outcomes so far.

Political reflection after elections

Commenting on recent parliamentary elections held amid the shadow of both the Videogate and “Mafia State” cases, Christou criticised voter behaviour.

He said that despite public dissatisfaction and protest, there has been no substantial political change.

Concluding, he added that repeated electoral choices lead to repeated outcomes, stating that citizens should not complain if they continue to support the same political patterns.
