Veroniki Hadjifani Lorenzetti works at the House of Cyprus

Date:

A series of watercolours by artist Veroniki Hadjifani Lorenzetti, created at a 1:1 scale from live fruit specimens and offering a faithful and striking representation of Cyprus’ fruit biodiversity, is on display at the House of Cyprus until 25 April.

According to an announcement from the House of Cyprus, “the main aim of the exhibition is to convey to younger generations the importance of preserving ancient fruit varieties, which represent not only a cultural and national heritage but also a valuable biodiversity treasure that must be protected.”

The exhibition is described as “a valuable illustrative contribution to the preservation of Cyprus’ fruit biodiversity.”

It highlights that these fruits – grapes, figs, and other varieties – bear witness to the economic and social evolution of Cyprus, and are now at risk of disappearing. The exhibition seeks to raise public awareness about the importance of conserving them.

This is why botanical art plays a fundamental role in preserving the memory of these varieties, combining aesthetic beauty with scientific value. Botanical illustrations allow for the precise depiction of the morphological characteristics of different species, contributing to their identification and conservation, the announcement continues.
