The deadline for renewing vehicle licences for the current year expires at midnight on Wednesday, with the Department of Road Transport warning that fines will be imposed on those who fail to renew on time.
Renewal periods and requirements
Vehicle licences can be renewed for three, six, nine, or twelve months, provided the vehicle holds a valid MOT certificate and insurance coverage.
Mandatory immobilisation declaration
Owners who do not intend to renew their vehicle licence for the current year but still hold a valid licence must submit a declaration of immobilisation. The appropriate forms must be completed and submitted to ensure the vehicle is officially recorded as stationary and not considered in circulation without a renewed licence.
Advice for vehicle owners
The Department of Road Transport urges vehicle owners to complete their obligations promptly and not wait until the last minute to avoid delays and the imposition of fines.
