Former Metropolitan of Paphos Tychikos sent a letter to the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus. He announces his intent to pursue civil courts to reclaim the Paphos Metropolitan seat.
The seat was legally granted to him through electoral process by Paphos’ Christian flock, according to information cited in the letter.
Synod response expected
Tychikos expresses thanks to Holy Synod members before informing them of his legal action. He seeks restoration of his position through legally prescribed procedures.
The Holy Synod convenes Thursday, January 8. Tychikos’ issue and Archbishop’s proposal to amend the charter, electing Metropolitans/Bishops by Synod and Archbishop by popular vote, appear on the agenda.
