Two fatal motorcycle accidents in Cyprus claim young lives

Date:

Cyprus was once again shaken by two fatal road accidents in the past two days, both involving young motorcyclists. A 20-year-old and a 16-year-old lost their lives in separate crashes in Lakatamia and Livadia, respectively, leaving their communities in mourning.

Young motorcyclist killed in tragic Lakatamia road accident

A fatal accident occurred late yesterday afternoon in Lakatamia, claiming the life of 20-year-old Giorgos Theofanous.

According to the police, the road accident took place on Wednesday, 29th January, at 19:10 on Aegeou Street in Lakatamia. While the 20-year-old was riding his motorcycle, he collided with an oncoming vehicle driven by a 64-year-old man.

Both drivers sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to the hospital. Tragically, doctors confirmed the death of the young motorcyclist. The 64-year-old driver received first aid and was later discharged.

The police have issued an appeal to any witnesses of the accident to contact the Traffic Department with any relevant information.

Second fatal accident involving 16-year-old motorcyclist in Livadia

A second fatal accident occurred in Livadia, Larnaca, where a 16-year-old student from the Agioi Anargyroi settlement lost his life in another tragic road accident.

According to the police, at around 22:30 on Wednesday, 16-year-old minor Christos Panagi was riding a moped along Efxinou Pontou Street in Livadia, Larnaca district. At some point, he lost control of his vehicle, colliding with the pavement and then a signpost.

Emergency responders rushed the severely injured teenager to the Accident and Emergency Department of Larnaca General Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

Police investigations at the scene uncovered a helmet, but authorities are conducting further examinations to determine whether he was wearing it at the time of the accident.

Ongoing investigations and road safety concerns

The Larnaca Traffic Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding Christos Panagi’s accident, while authorities in Nicosia continue to probe the collision that claimed the life of Giorgos Theofanous.

Both incidents have sparked renewed concerns about road safety, especially for young motorcyclists. Authorities urge caution and adherence to road safety regulations to prevent further tragedies.
