Turkish media have launched a coordinated offensive today, portraying the deepening Greek-Israeli defence cooperation as direct preparation for war against Ankara.
Pro-government outlet A Haber went furthest, claiming Greek defence industry sources told Israel’s N12 television that “the weapons we are buying from Israel will be used against Turkey.” The same sources allegedly said Athens wants to finalise the arms package before the 2027 Greek elections.
“Anti-Turkey 3+1 axis”
Major Turkish newspapers and websites present the Greece–Cyprus–Israel triangle (often called “3+1” with the addition of implied US backing) as an emerging military front aimed at containing Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean.
- Milliyet headline: “3+1 plan against Turkey! Greek press publishes the details: Ankara is an unpredictable power with €27 billion worth of armament.”
- En Son Haber: “Greek-Cypriot media openly admit the 3+1 defence line targets Turkey because of our rapid rise in the defence industry.”
- Star: “They tried to stop our F-35s but failed – now they admit they cannot predict Turkey’s military power.”
- Türkgün (most aggressive tone): “Insidious plot against Turkey.”
Main Turkish grievances highlighted
Turkish media claim Greece and Israel are jointly lobbying to stop Turkey from reacquiring F-35 jets, describing the move as dangerous for the entire region, while also working to curb Ankara’s influence in Gaza after the ceasefire. They further accuse Athens of threatening to extend Aegean territorial waters to 12 nautical miles, a step Turkey still regards as casus belli, and portray the Greek Cypriot administration as erecting an explicit anti-Turkey defence line together with Israel and Cyprus.
Turkish outlets heavily reference a recent SigmaLive article titled “How Greece–Israel–Cyprus are building a joint defence line against Turkey” and a US think-tank (FDD) report stating Turkey has dramatically shifted the regional balance of power in its favour.
