Turkish media: Cyprus-Lebanon maritime agreement violates our sovereign rights

The agreement signed today between Lebanon and the Republic of Cyprus on the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction zones, signed today, has provoked immediate and sharp reactions in Turkey.

Turkish outlets are running the news as breaking, stressing that the deal directly infringes on the sovereign rights of both Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot community, and calling for heightened regional vigilance in the region.

“Lebanon and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus have signed an agreement on the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction zones,” Turkish media report, underlining that the accord is not merely bilateral but directly harms the rights of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots.

“The agreement violates the sovereign rights of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus possess,” commentators state.
