U.S. President Donald Trump will sign an agreement with Iran only if the “red lines” set by Washington are met, a White House official said on Friday following a meeting between the president and his advisers, after which no public announcements were made.
“The meeting in the Situation Room has concluded and lasted approximately two hours. President Trump will sign an agreement only if it is good for America and if his red lines are respected. Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons,” the official told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Earlier, The New York Times reported that Trump left the two-hour meeting without a decision being reached, despite having previously stated that he intended to make a “final decision.”
According to Trump, the agreement aimed at extending the ceasefire would include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s commitment never to develop a nuclear bomb, and the transfer of its enriched uranium to the United States.
