The CY-Alert system will officially come into operation on 2 June 2026, according to the Civil Defence Force, introducing a new mobile-based emergency warning mechanism for the public.
The system will provide real-time alerts to citizens in affected areas during emergencies and natural disasters, aiming to ensure faster response and improved public safety.
Civil Defence Force Cyprus said the CY-Alert system is designed to inform the population immediately so that they can take necessary protective measures for life and property.
CY-Alert system test messages scheduled in June
To test the system in real operational conditions, trial alerts will be sent between 2 and 15 June 2026.
The CY-Alert system test messages will include a loud alert sound and vibration, clearly marked with the indication “TEST – TEST – TEST” or “EXERCISE – EXERCISE – EXERCISE”, confirming that no action is required from the public.
Areas included in CY-Alert system tests
The scheduled test alerts will be sent as follows:
- 2 June (11:00–12:00): Pissouri and Moniatis communities
- 2 June (16:00–17:00): Psevdas community
- 7 June (10:00–11:00): Argaka, Avgorou and Ora communities
- 10 June (16:00–17:00): Phini and Kalopanagiotis communities
- 15 June (15:00–16:00): Island-wide alert for a missing person exercise
The CY-Alert system messages will also be delivered to neighbouring communities in affected zones during testing.
How the CY-Alert system works
The CY-Alert system will send targeted alerts to mobile phones based on geographic location, ensuring that only users in specific areas receive emergency notifications.
To receive alerts, citizens must activate the relevant settings on their mobile devices. Guidance is available through the Civil Defence hotline at 1450, as well as instructional videos on official social media channels.

Authorities say the system is designed to enhance public preparedness and ensure rapid communication during emergencies.
By delivering immediate warnings, the CY-Alert system aims to strengthen civil protection mechanisms and improve response times in crisis situations across Cyprus.
