Traffic cameras: Online search for fines now available

Date:

Assistant Director of the Traffic Department, Charis Evripidou, spoke on the Protoselido programme about traffic camera fines and uncollected penalties.

He noted that approximately 500,000 fines have been issued between 1 January 2022 and the end of 2024. “All fixed cameras have been installed, with one pending location where a quadruple fatality occurred a year ago. Our initial goal was to use this 24/7 system to effectively control speeding, which leads to fatal or serious collisions,” Mr. Evripidou stated.

He highlighted that an announcement would be issued later in the day regarding the large volume of uncollected fines. “In mid-December, we introduced the first phase, which involved electronic driver identification. The next phase, announced today, targets those who have failed to collect fines issued since 1 January 2022.”

He explained that a webpage has been created to allow electronic fine searches using identification details. “In coordination with the Legal Service, all unresolved cases will be referred to court. This is the final opportunity for offenders to settle their fines out of court; otherwise, they will face legal proceedings. For those who fail to collect their fines, they may encounter them at airports, ports, or during interactions with police officers,” he added.
