Trafficking of woman allegations – three appear in court

Date:

Three individuals, aged 58, 79, and 44, were referred today to the Permanent Assize Court of Paphos, where they will appear on 13 October 2025. The case concerns the alleged trafficking and exploitation of a 48-year-old Romanian woman.

According to police, the suspects face charges including conspiracy to commit a felony, abduction, and human trafficking, following a complaint filed on 9 August.

The 58-year-old will remain in custody until the trial. The 79-year-old and 44-year-old were released under strict bail conditions, including being placed on the Stop List, surrendering their travel documents, and signing a €100,000 guarantee. The 44-year-old, who failed to secure a guarantor, was re-arrested.

The case began when Romanian authorities informed Cyprus police that a woman may have been held against her will in a Paphos hotel. Officers were unable to locate her at the hotel, but later found her at Paphos Airport, where she was reportedly calling for help.

The woman stated she had travelled to Cyprus with a 51-year-old man, who restricted her movement and twice forced her to engage in sexual acts with clients at a specific premises in Paphos, in exchange for money.

The 51-year-old and the other two suspects were arrested in the following days under court warrants. Police investigations are ongoing.
