President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides held a phone call on Sunday regarding developments in the region with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who initiated the call and confirmed “clearly and categorically that Cyprus was not a target” of missiles.
In a post on X, President Christodoulides noted that the two leaders remain in direct contact and that all competent authorities are fully engaged and closely monitoring developments.
Earlier on Sunday, British Defence Secretary John Healey revealed that two Iranian missiles were launched in the direction of Cyprus, where the United Kingdom maintains key military bases.
He noted that RAF (Royal Air Force) fighter jets are taking off from British bases in Cyprus and Qatar to protect both countries from potential Iranian attacks.
“We are not sure whether they were deliberately targeting our bases,” he clarified. The missiles were intercepted.
