Syria will not serve as a launchpad for attacks on Israel says Jolani

Date:

In an exclusive interview with The Times on Monday, Syria’s new leader, Mohammed al-Jolani—now using his birth name, Ahmed al-Saraa—stated that Syria would not be used as a launchpad for attacks against Israel or any other state.

Al-Saraa urged Israel to stop its airstrikes and withdraw from Syrian territories it had occupied after Assad’s departure.

He explained that Israel’s justification for its actions, which was the presence of Hezbollah and Iranian militias, was no longer valid. He added that Syria remained committed to the 1974 agreement and was open to the return of UN observers.

Al-Saraa emphasised that Syria did not seek conflict with Israel or any other country and would not allow its territory to be used as a base for attacks. He stressed the need for airstrikes to stop, pointing out that the Syrian people required a period of reprieve, and called for Israel to withdraw to its previous positions.
