The new US Ambassador to Cyprus, John Breslow, highlighted the importance of security, protection and prosperity in Cyprus-US relations following his meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday.
Breslow praises Cyprus-US cooperation
Speaking after the meeting, Breslow described his discussion with Christodoulides as “wonderful” and highlighted the broad cooperation between the two countries.
“We talked about the great cooperation that the United States and Cyprus have and all the projects on which we are working together,” he said.
The ambassador said security, protection and prosperity, along with developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, are important priorities in Cyprus-US relations.
Breslow also said he was “extremely happy” to be in Cyprus as ambassador and looked forward to working with Christodoulides on future initiatives.
Visa waiver and energy also discussed
According to information, the meeting also covered Cyprus’ participation in the US Visa Waiver Program, energy issues and the presence and activities of two major US companies in Cyprus.
Trade, security and other areas of bilateral cooperation were also discussed.
US-funded upgrades at Paphos air base
Breslow is also expected to visit the “Andreas Papandreou” Air Base in Paphos.
The base is being expanded with US funding to allow it to accommodate heavy transport aircraft and support emergency or humanitarian missions.
