Storm uproots trees in Paralimni; motorway exit closed after crash

Date:

Overnight gusts snapped and uprooted ten cypress trees (2–2.5 m tall) in Pernera (Protaras) and on 1st April Avenue in Paralimni.

Fire services in Larnaca and free Famagusta district handled three weather-related calls:

  • Pumping water from a boat in Larnaca
  • Clearing flooded basements in Deryneia and Protara

Separately, a collision on the Limassol–Nicosia motorway injured one person and closed the exit to Xalepianes (Kofinou). Police are on site directing traffic.

Police again urge all drivers island-wide to:

  • Drive at low speed
  • Keep safe distances
  • Switch on dipped headlights
