A sentence of up to six years was imposed on Monday by the Permanent Criminal Court of Paphos on a 59-year-old man who shot and seriously injured his wife outside their home in Peyia in January 2025.
The court heard that the defendant fired two shots with a hunting rifle, seriously injuring his then 46-year-old wife, who was hospitalised following the attack.
The couple has since divorced.
Admission and cooperation with police
The accused admitted to the shooting, telling authorities he had called the police himself after the incident and expressing remorse for his actions.
He also cooperated with investigators and provided guidance to the scenes of the case.
Compensation and restitution
During the proceedings, it was heard that the defendant paid a total of €130,000 in compensation to the victim, €10,000 to her lawyer, and €21,000 to their minor daughter.
He also transferred property assets, including an apartment registered in the daughter’s name and additional apartments he agreed not to claim.
The court was further informed that the victim submitted a sworn statement confirming she had been fully compensated and no longer had claims.
Custodial sentence imposed
Despite mitigating factors, the court imposed concurrent prison sentences, with the longest being six years, bringing the case to a conclusion.
