A delivery rider was assaulted in Limassol on Friday, 2 October, with footage obtained by RoadReportCY capturing part of the confrontation.
Assault captured on video
The incident occurred at around 5:45pm on Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue while vehicles were stopped at traffic lights.
The footage shows the delivery rider beside his fallen bicycle and delivery equipment, with a black vehicle stopped nearby. A physical confrontation then develops beside the vehicle before moving onto the traffic island. The footage shows punches and kicks, while a second man later becomes involved.
At one point, the rider appears to be restrained in a hold around the upper body and neck, described by an eyewitness as a headlock.
Eyewitness account
According to an eyewitness cited by RoadReportCY, the incident had started before the camera began recording.
The witness alleged that the rider was cycling alongside stationary vehicles when a person inside the black vehicle reached through the window, grabbed his delivery bag and pulled him from the bicycle, causing him to fall.
The alleged moment when the rider was pulled from the bicycle is not captured on video and forms part of the eyewitness account. The subsequent confrontation is visible in the footage.
The witness said the men later left the scene in the black vehicle.
Police launch investigation
Police said there has been no official complaint over the incident. However, an investigation has been launched ex officio.
RoadReportCY said the original, unedited footage, eyewitness information and details concerning the vehicle involved have been passed to Police Headquarters.
The investigation is ongoing.
