Service weapon discharges, injuring officer at Paralimni police station

At around 19:45 on Sunday evening, at Paralimni Police Station, a service weapon discharged during the handover procedure between two police officers, carried out under standard safety measures for the transfer of firearms. As a result, one of the officers sustained an injury to his leg.

The officer was taken by ambulance to Famagusta General Hospital, where doctors found he had suffered a superficial wound to his left leg. Stitches are expected to be administered and he is anticipated to be discharged.

The Chief of Police has instructed an investigation into the incident.
