Serious workplace accident in Paphos leaves 37-year-old injured

A 37-year-old man employed by a company carrying out excavation and construction work was seriously injured on Thursday afternoon in a workplace accident in the Coral Bay area.

According to a representative of the Police Headquarters’ Communication Branch, at 3:15 p.m. yesterday, a 37-year-old Syrian national, an employee of an earthworks company, became trapped in the belt of a crusher while cleaning it at a construction site in the Coral Bay area.

With the assistance of other workers and the ambulance crew, he was freed and transported to the Accident and Emergency Department of Paphos General Hospital.

There, he was examined by on-duty doctors and found to have sustained a fracture of the right humerus, a fracture of the radius in his right arm, and a laceration to his eyebrow.

The 37-year-old was admitted for further hospitalisation, and his condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.
