Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a scooter hit-and-run incident in Limassol, in which a mother and her 15-month-old daughter were struck while crossing a pedestrian crossing.
According to police, the suspect is believed to have been riding an electric scooter when he hit the woman and her child as they were crossing a pedestrian crossing on a cycle lane near 28th October Street. The incident involved a 43-year-old woman from Ukraine and her toddler, who was in her arms at the time.
Incident occurred on 8 December
The accident took place on the afternoon of 8 December, when the woman was crossing the pedestrian crossing along the cycle lane. The scooter rider, who was travelling on the cycle path, collided with them, causing both the mother and child to fall to the ground.
The infant sustained serious head injuries, while the scooter rider also fell but subsequently fled the scene. Police launched an investigation to identify and locate the suspect, leading to the arrest of the 21-year-old.
Child hospitalised in Nicosia
The injured child was initially taken to a private clinic and later transferred to Archbishop Makarios III Hospital, where she remains hospitalised for treatment.
Police investigations into the circumstances of the incident are continuing.
