US President-elect Donald Trump has chosen 53-year-old Republican Senator Marco Rubio for the position of Secretary of State in his administration, reported the New York Times on Monday, citing three sources familiar with his decision.
Furthermore, Donald Trump has selected Republican Congressman Mike Waltz for the role of National Security Advisor to the White House, a source informed of his decision told Reuters. This places a retired Green Beret from the US Army’s special forces, known for his hardline stance on China, in a critical role.
Mr Waltz, a congressman who is unwaveringly loyal to the tycoon and who also served in the National Guard with the rank of colonel, has criticised Chinese activities in the Asia-Pacific region and calls for the US to prepare for a potential war in the area.
