Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead Sunday in their Los Angeles home with multiple stab wounds. Their 28-year-old daughter Romy discovered the bodies around 3:38 PM local time, calling emergency services.
Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced Rob, 78, and Michele, 68, dead at the scene. Police arrested son Nick Reiner, 32, hours later at 9:15 PM Sunday; he’s held without bail on murder suspicion. No motive released; probe ongoing.
However, the 32-year-old son was seen having an argument with his father at a holiday party Saturday at Conan O’Brien’s home, according to a source familiar with the incident.
Nick’s addiction struggles
Nick Reiner has spoken publicly about his struggles with addiction and homelessness. His experiences formed the basis of the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he made with his father in 2015.

Reiner’s iconic career
Rob Reiner, the son of comedy great Carl Reiner, began his career in the 1960s and rose to fame playing ‘Meathead’ in the TV sitcom All in The Family. He cemented his success with the cult mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap in 1984, which he directed and starred in.
Reiner was married to Laverne & Shirley actress Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981 and is the adoptive father to Marshall’s daughter, actress Tracy Reiner. He married Michele Reiner in 1989, who he said he met during the making of the romantic comedy-drama film When Harry Met Sally. The couple have three children together.
Michele Reiner worked as an actress, photographer, and producer. She founded “Reiner Light”, her own photography agency and production company.
Trump post draws backlash
Rob Reiner gained recognition for outspoken political activism. He strongly supported Democratic candidates throughout his career.
President Donald Trump called the deaths “very sad” but blamed Reiner’s “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” claiming they “reportedly” died from anger caused by his “raging obsession” with Trump that “drove people CRAZY.”
“Trump Derangement Syndrome” targets Trump’s critics, Reiner was vocal among them. Several Republicans condemned the post, including Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Family tragedy, not politics. Many families face drug addiction, mental health struggles – needs empathy, especially ending in murder.”
