A remarkable emergency operation unfolded yesterday evening when a woman gave birth prematurely at 27 weeks inside her home, located in a remote area, according to Riana Constantinou, Head of the Ambulance Service.
Emergency response and challenges
Ambulance crews rushed to the scene, managing a highly challenging rescue operation. Constantinou described the mission as a complete success despite the significant difficulties involved.
Both the mother and the newborn required immediate attention, creating a dual-critical situation for the coordination centre and the emergency teams.
Newborn resuscitation under difficult conditions
“Resuscitating a newborn is challenging even within the safe environment of a hospital, let alone in the field,” Constantinou highlighted, praising the teams’ rapid response and professional handling of the case.
The operation underscores the readiness and capability of Cyprus’ emergency services to handle life-threatening situations in difficult and remote settings.
