A rare black flamingo has reappeared in Cyprus, attracting attention among the hundreds of pink flamingos currently gathered in the Akrotiri area.
The unusual bird visits the island periodically and is a particular attraction for people interested in wildlife. Its distinctive black plumage is attributed to an increased presence of melanin, which sets it apart from other flamingos.
Why flamingos visit Cyprus
The large number of flamingos currently in Cyprus is linked to their seasonal migration.
During this period, the birds leave their breeding grounds and travel to destinations where they spend the winter. Cyprus is one of the stops along their migratory route.
