Local showers and storms expected
An unsettled Cyprus weather pattern is affecting the island, as weak low pressure combined with an unstable air mass brings local showers and isolated thunderstorms.
The weather conditions in Cyprus are expected to develop mainly during midday and afternoon hours, with a chance of hail in thunderstorms. Mountain areas, inland regions, and coastal zones will all be affected at intervals.
This unstable Cyprus weather pattern is set to continue until Good Friday, with slight fluctuations in temperature.
Detailed weather forecast
Today, increased local cloud cover will be observed, while isolated showers or even a thunderstorm may occur along the coasts. From midday onwards, developing clouds are expected to bring local showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains, the south, the east, and inland areas. Hail is possible during thunderstorms.
Winds will initially blow mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening in the afternoon along the coasts to moderate to strong, at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly rough at first, becoming generally slightly rough by the afternoon.
Temperatures will rise to around 22°C inland, 21°C along the coasts, and 11°C in higher mountainous areas.
Night outlook
Tonight, conditions will become mostly clear, although increased cloud will persist in the west. Winds will remain south-westerly to north-westerly, generally light at 3 Beaufort and temporarily moderate along the coasts at 3 to 4 Beaufort.
The sea will be calm to slightly rough in the east and slightly rough in other coastal areas. Temperatures will fall to around 9°C inland, 13°C on the west and north coasts, 11°C on the remaining coasts, and 4°C in higher mountainous regions.
Outlook through Good Friday
On Holy Wednesday, the weather will start mostly clear with increased cloud in the west. By midday, cloud build-up may bring isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous and eastern areas. Isolated showers are also expected overnight, mainly in the west and north.
On Holy Thursday, intervals of cloud will dominate, with isolated showers or thunderstorms expected in coastal areas during the morning. Later in the day, local showers and storms will develop, mainly in the mountains, the south, the east, and inland regions. Overnight, isolated showers or storms are expected, particularly in the south-west, west, and north.
On Good Friday, partly cloudy conditions will prevail with isolated showers or thunderstorms, initially affecting the western half of the island before spreading elsewhere. From the afternoon onwards, conditions will improve significantly, becoming mostly clear by evening with some local cloud along the coasts.
Temperatures will see a slight rise on Holy Wednesday and a gradual drop by Good Friday, remaining close to seasonal averages.
