Unstable air mass continues to affect Cyprus, bringing localised showers and isolated thunderstorms across several areas of the island.
The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for isolated strong thunderstorms expected to affect mountainous areas, inland regions and eastern parts of Cyprus.
Thunderstorms and hail expected
The weather will gradually become partly cloudy today, while cloud build-up from midday onwards is expected to trigger local showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains, inland areas and the east.
Hail may fall during thunderstorms, while rainfall intensity could locally exceed 35 millimetres per hour.
The yellow warning remains in effect from 11:00 until 18:00.
Strong winds across coastal areas
Winds will initially blow from the southwest to northwest, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually strengthening to 4 to 5 Beaufort. During the afternoon, winds along southern coastal areas are expected to become very strong, reaching 6 Beaufort.
The sea will become slightly rough and later locally rough.
Temperatures will rise to around 30C inland, 28C on the south and east coasts, 25C on the west and north coasts, and 20C in the higher mountains.
Weekend outlook
Tonight, locally increased low cloud is expected, mainly in western areas. Temperatures will drop to around 17C inland and along the coast, and 11C in the higher mountains.
On Friday, increased afternoon cloud may bring isolated showers or thunderstorms mainly in southern and eastern regions.
On Saturday and Sunday, local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, mainly in the mountains and inland during the afternoon.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Sunday and will remain close to average seasonal values.
