A 22-year-old man already in custody for the Pyla case has been re-arrested by police in connection with drugs and weapons offences.
The suspect had been under detention since 3 September in relation to attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and illegal possession of firearms and explosives — crimes linked to incidents in Pyla on 14 August.
According to the police communication office, a search was carried out at his residence in Nicosia district by members of the Larnaca CID and OPE, as well as Nicosia CID and YKAN. Officers discovered and confiscated four pistols, three of them with loaded magazines, an additional magazine with bullets, a collapsible baton, a device resembling a mobile phone, and an air rifle.
Further investigation uncovered a shoebox containing two nylon zip-lock bags with a white crystalline substance weighing 2.089 kilograms, believed to be methamphetamine. Additional nylon packages suspected of containing drugs were also found in another room.
The 22-year-old is expected to appear before Nicosia District Court today for a remand order. The Pyla case continues to be investigated by Nicosia CID and YKAN.
