Price increases for 179 medicines covered by GESY and reductions for 122 others will take effect next Monday (3rd February).
Speaking to Protoselido, Stefani Georgiou, a pharmacist at the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO), stated that there will be changes in patient contributions for certain medicines reimbursed by GESY.
She explained that out of the nearly 2,500 medicines reimbursed under GESY, patient contributions will increase for 179 medicines, while contributions for 122 medicines will decrease.
She clarified that the affected medicines include those used for chronic conditions, such as cholesterol management and anti-diabetic drugs.
Finally, she noted that for 168 out of the 179 medicines, the price increase will be less than three euros. However, she acknowledged that a few medicines will see a higher price rise, but only around three medicines fall into this category.
