President signs roadmap for single market “One Europe, One Market”

Date:

EU leaders commit to stronger integration

The EU single market roadmap was formally signed on Friday in Nicosia, marking a joint commitment by European institutions to deepen the Single Market and strengthen the competitiveness of the European Union.

The agreement was signed by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, on the sidelines of the informal European Council.

Focus on competitiveness and strategic autonomy

The EU single market roadmap aims to reduce fragmentation within the Single Market, enhance economic competitiveness, and strengthen the EU’s strategic autonomy and economic security.

The goal is the full completion of the Single Market by 2027, with clear timelines and coordinated implementation across member states.

42 action plan across key sectors

The roadmap includes 42 actions covering legislative and policy initiatives already under negotiation or included in the European Commission’s work programme.

These measures focus on five key areas: regulatory simplification, deeper market integration, trade policy reinforcement, energy cost reduction alongside decarbonisation efforts, and accelerating digital transformation and artificial intelligence adoption.

Binding commitments for EU institutions

Under the EU single market roadmap, the European Commission will propose relevant initiatives, while the European Parliament and Council commit to prioritising swift agreement on legislative proposals.

Member states and EU institutions also pledge stronger enforcement to ensure full implementation of agreed measures.

Monitoring and quarterly reviews

The roadmap establishes a structured monitoring system, with EU institutions set to meet on a quarterly basis to assess progress, identify obstacles, coordinate actions, and update priorities where necessary.

Officials said the EU single market roadmap will be measured through concrete outcomes, ensuring accountability and continuous evaluation of progress toward integration goals.
