85-year-old man dies after being struck by reversing vehicle in Anthoupoli

An 85-year-old man, Andreas Christou, has died after being seriously injured in a road crash in the Anthoupoli refugee settlement.

According to information under investigation, at around 3:45 pm yesterday, a car driven by a 38-year-old man was reversing in Archbishop Makarios Square when, under circumstances being investigated, it struck the 85-year-old, who was walking behind the vehicle at the time.

The road crash left Christou seriously injured, and he was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was being treated in critical condition.

Driver tested for alcohol and drugs

The 38-year-old driver underwent an alcohol test, which returned a negative result.

He also underwent a preliminary drug test, which returned a positive indication.

The Lakatamia Police Station is continuing its investigation into the circumstances of the road crash.
