President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides will soon travel to three American states, with the sole purpose of attracting investments, he said during his meeting with Alpha Bank Greece and Cyprus representatives, while also referring to the opening of diplomatic missions in countries with which economic relations are being strengthened.
Speaking during the meeting that took place today at the Presidential Palace, President Christodoulides referred to the country’s economic performance, noting that Cyprus is among the EU countries with the highest growth rate, at 3.4%, while the target for public debt is to reduce it from 68% to 60% of GDP.
According to a Presidency statement, during the meeting, the President of the Republic said that Alpha Bank’s presence in Cyprus is a vote of confidence in the Cypriot financial system.
He added that today “is a very good moment for the Cypriot economy”, adding that the Government is following a responsible economic policy, “because we do not play with the economy, especially in Cyprus, where, unfortunately, in the past we have paid for mistakes and omissions we made.”
President Christodoulides said that “our country is among the EU countries with the highest growth rate, at 3.4%, while our public debt has one of the highest reductions,” noting that the target is to reach 60% of GDP from the current 68%.
He also added that Cyprus is in full employment, with the employment rate at 4.9%, noting, however, that a major problem that exists is workforce availability.
The President of the Republic also referred to the Government’s campaign abroad, starting in London, “to bring back Cypriot scientists”, which, he said, is very important for the economy.
Referring to efforts to attract quality foreign investment, President Christodoulides pointed to his upcoming trip to three American states with the sole purpose of attracting investment, as well as the opening of diplomatic missions in countries with which economic relations are also being strengthened.
The President also said that “we have successfully dealt with the migration issue, with departures being 4-5 times more than arrivals”.
