President Christodoulides attending EU Council and Western Balkans summit

President Nikos Christodoulides travels to Brussels today to participate in the EU-Western Balkans summit and the European Council. A Presidency announcement states that President Christodoulides joins the EU-Western Balkans summit this evening. He advances Cyprus’ interests in regional integration and stability during these key discussions.

EPP meeting and leader talks

On Thursday morning, December 18, President Christodoulides attends the European People’s Party (EPP) summit. He then holds his regular meetings with other European leaders, with migration as the main topic. These talks allow him to coordinate positions on pressing EU challenges.

European Council agenda

President Christodoulides participates in the European Council sessions next. He schedules bilateral meetings with counterparts and EU institutions in preparation for Cyprus’ upcoming EU Council Presidency. Leaders receive an update on Ukraine from President Volodymyr Zelensky during the proceedings.

Key discussion topics

A working lunch follows on EU enlargement. Leaders then debate the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028-2034 and the Middle East situation. That evening, EU heads of state share a working dinner focused on geo-economics and competitiveness.

Delegation and return

President Christodoulides travels with Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marielena Raouna, President’s Press Director Victor Papadopoulos, Deputy Director of the President’s Diplomatic Office Nektarios Soteriou, and officials. He returns to Cyprus on December 19.
