Date:

Demonstration set for 11:00 tomorrow, with police urging participants to respect the law and help keep traffic moving

Police will be deployed in the Rizoelia area on Friday ahead of a planned protest by a group of livestock farmers, in a bid to safeguard public order and safety while also assisting with traffic management.

According to a police announcement, organisers have informed authorities that protesters are expected to gather at around 11:00 am in the Rizoelia area.

Police said their priority would be to ensure the safe movement of citizens and the smooth flow of traffic throughout the demonstration.

“The Police respect and protect the right of citizens to take part in peaceful protest,” the announcement said, stressing however that demonstrations must take place within the bounds of the law and without jeopardising public safety, disrupting the road network, or obstructing the free passage of vehicles.

Participants, as well as members of the wider public, are being urged to follow the instructions of officers on duty, show a spirit of co-operation, and help ensure that the protest proceeds peacefully and without disruption.

Police also reminded those attending that they must fully comply with the relevant legislation and current decrees governing mass gatherings and demonstrations.
