The police office started work seven minutes after 06:00, was issued his service pistol, and told his colleagues that he was going somewhere and would be back. These are the initial reports regarding the violent incident that took place outside a school in Zakaki, Limassol. According to statements made from the scene by the Limassol Police Director, this practice of officers being issued their weapons and briefly leaving their post is common.
As the Limassol Police Director said, members of the force rushed to the scene shortly before 7 am, where they found a man dead inside a vehicle and a woman injured. Her condition is described as very critical, and she is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Limassol General Hospital.
Asked about the police officer’s background, the Limassol Police Director said there is no report before him of any previous aggressive behaviour.
Meanwhile, as shown in footage from the scene, the woman had gone there in her own vehicle, where it appears they had arranged a meeting. The two sat in the same car and had a heated argument. The officer then grabbed her by the neck and later threatened a passer-by who rushed in to help. A few minutes later, he shot her four times and subsequently took his own life.
