Six pistols and hundreds of bullets discovered at a house in Nicosia were allegedly destined for use by organised crime groups, according to information emerging from the investigation.
Authorities are examining a suspected weapon trafficking network operating from the occupied areas, reportedly working through orders and deliveries of firearms into the government-controlled areas of Cyprus.
Suspects allegedly admitted weapons were ordered
According to reports, the two suspects arrested in the case, a 34-year-old Turkish Cypriot and a 25-year-old Turkish national holding a British passport, allegedly told investigators that the weapons had been transported following orders placed by individuals in the free areas.
The arrests followed a police patrol in Aglantzia at around 5 pm on Sunday, when officers stopped the vehicle driven by the 34-year-old, with the 25-year-old as a passenger.
Drugs and ammunition found during searches
During a search of the vehicle, police discovered packages containing 20 grammes of cocaine and five grammes of cannabis.
A subsequent search at the residence of the 25-year-old led officers to uncover the six pistols, together with boxes containing 299 bullets.
Police also located five grammes of cannabis and 22 packages of ecstasy-type pills.
Links examined with previous Engomi case
According to information gathered during forensic examinations, authorities identified similarities between the six pistols and seven firearms discovered on 2 November 2025 in a bag hidden beneath a tree in a field in Engomi.
At the time, police had received intelligence that weapons were hidden in a field in Makedonitissa.
The information reportedly emerged after two Turkish Cypriots were arrested in the occupied areas for possession of 11 pistols.
Occupation authorities later found another eight pistols and weapon components discarded in a well, bringing the total number of firearms discovered in that investigation to 19.
Police sources said intelligence received at the time suggested that more than seven pistols had originally been hidden, leaving open the possibility that additional weapons remained unaccounted for.
