Police investigate illegal surrogacy case as fathers remain missing

Date:

Police are tracking the founder of a ‘ghost’ company linked to surrogacy.

According to police spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou, “We are already on the trail of a foreign individual who appears to be the founder of this company, but he is not currently in Cyprus. Efforts are also being made to locate the ‘fathers’ of these children, who are also not in the free areas.”

She noted that no birth registration records exist for the twin children in the Republic of Cyprus, and the company itself is not officially registered.

She added that “there have been no other complaints regarding this case apart from the one filed by the Ministry of Health”, highlighting the challenges in investigating the matter. “The Limassol CID will take further actions today, as the investigation is still ongoing.”

Specifically, authorities will seek information from the UNHCR to determine whether the ‘fathers’ have made contact, in an effort to clarify the facts of the case.
