A dramatic police chase in Paphos ended with warning shots and a crash involving a patrol car on Sunday night.
Police said they are investigating offences of reckless and dangerous driving, as well as failure to comply with an officer’s signal to stop.
During routine traffic checks in Paphos, officers signalled a driver to pull over. Instead, the driver accelerated, drove dangerously, and at times used the wrong lane, creating a risk of collision.
As police attempted to intercept him, the suspect’s vehicle cut across a patrol car, causing the service vehicle to crash into an embankment and sustain damage.
Officers then fired a number of warning shots to stop the car.
The vehicle was eventually intercepted in the Paphos district. The driver was identified as a 32-year-old man, with a 19-year-old woman in the passenger seat.
The man was arrested on the basis of an outstanding court fine warrant and remains in custody. Nothing incriminating was found against the woman.
The Paphos police chase is still under investigation, with Paphos traffic police working alongside Peyia Police Station.
