Community on edge over planned livestock killings

Tensions are boiling over in the village of Pachna following reports of an imminent animal cull linked to suspected cases of foot-and-mouth disease. More than 300 residents are reportedly prepared to block the euthanasia process.

Last Saturday, samples were taken from the farm of a livestock breeder for repeat testing after positive cases had previously been identified.

However, the results of the latest examinations have not yet been announced.

Priest and farmer informed of planned action

Despite the pending laboratory results, the priest and livestock farmer was informed last night that officials from the Veterinary Services are expected to visit his farm today to begin the process of euthanising the animals.

The development has triggered strong reactions within the Pachna community.

According to Elena Louka, speaking live on Protoselido, there is widespread unrest among livestock breeders, who appear determined not to allow the decision to be implemented.

Cases also detected in Palaiometocho

It should also be noted that suspected cases were identified at a farm in Palaiometocho.
