Parents file complaints over alleged violent behaviour by teacher

Date:

Serious complaints about a school teacher have been filed by parents at a primary school in Nicosia, following multiple reports from pupils alleging repeated verbal, psychological and physical mistreatment inside the classroom.

According to the parents, the allegations emerged after several children independently described troubling behaviour by their teacher. The reports include claims of verbal intimidation, psychologically pressuring remarks, and gestures that pupils found frightening or humiliating.

Parents say the testimonies also describe violent actions, including forcefully grabbing children by their clothes or hands, and even instances where pupils were allegedly held by the neck. The accounts have caused significant distress among the children, with some reportedly expressing reluctance to attend her lessons.

The parents describe the alleged behaviour as unacceptable and pedagogically indefensible, stressing that it violates basic principles of safety and respect in the school environment. They state in their letter that they have already informed the Cyprus Police.

They are calling on the Education Ministry and the school administration to immediately investigate all allegations and to temporarily remove the teacher from the school setting until the inquiry is complete. They emphasise that the physical and emotional safety of pupils must be guaranteed, and that no child should be subjected to violence, intimidation or degrading treatment.

According to SigmaLive information, an investigation by the Education Ministry is already under way.
