The President of the Confederation of Parents of Primary Education, Yiannos Yiannou, spoke on SIGMA’s program “Mesimeri kai Kati” regarding a reported assault on a first-grade student in a Paphos school.
Incident under investigation by Ministry of Education
Yiannou said he contacted the Minister of Education, who confirmed that an investigation is already underway. The Confederation is awaiting the results of the investigation.
Parents fear cover-up, demand transparency
He added that the details shared with the Confederation are shocking, emphasizing that any responsibilities identified must be addressed, as parents fear a potential cover-up.
Yiannou expressed concern over the actions of school administrators, noting that when parents see visible injuries on their children and request an explanation, they are sometimes met with suggestions that the child is at fault. Reports from other students have corroborated the incident.
He also condemned claims that the children might be lying, stating: “The fact that a teacher remains in the classroom, despite the horrifying details of the incident, is completely unacceptable.”
