Police interviews underway
Investigators from the Cyprus Police Headquarters are continuing to take statements following a complaint by a businessman in Paphos against Mayor Phedonas Phedonos, reportedly relating to a serious offence.
Additional investigation
An ex officio investigation is also ongoing concerning allegations of abuse against the mayor, specifically involving his wife.
Police evaluation in progress
Police spokesperson Vyronas Vyronos stated that all information regarding the Paphos mayor case is being fully evaluated. He confirmed that all necessary actions will be taken and that investigations are continuing.
Role of the Ministry of Interior
The Ministry of Interior is awaiting the official response from police before deciding on the next steps. If the police indicate that there is a case against the mayor, the Ministry will consult the Law Office, the government’s legal advisor, to determine whether to place Mayor Phedonos on leave.
If the police find no issue, the Ministry will not seek legal advice and no measures, including suspension, will be taken.
