Palestinian ambassador urges countries to act on famine in Gaza

Date:

The Palestinian ambassador to Cyprus has urged countries to act on famine in Gaza, calling on states that have not yet taken a clear position to reconsider and join 24 nations that have already spoken out.

In a written statement, Ambassador Abdallah Attari condemned Israel’s actions, stating: “As the occupying state continues its relentless genocide in Gaza, using starvation as a weapon against our people, we welcome the statement by 24 foreign ministers.”

He noted that the joint declaration includes countries such as Japan, the UK, Canada, and Australia, as well as longstanding supporters of the Palestinian cause like Cyprus and Greece.

“These countries denounce the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has reached unimaginable levels,” Attari said. “They are calling on Israel to allow the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave.”

Quoting the joint statement, he emphasised: “Famine is unfolding before our eyes and demands urgent action now to halt and reverse the hunger.”

The ambassador said this appeal highlights how the crisis has become a global concern. He criticised Israel for barring the UN agency UNRWA from fulfilling its duties and for removing experienced NGOs from the area.

Furthermore, Attari accused Israel of turning aid distribution points and access routes into deadly traps. “More than 1,500 people have lost their lives in these locations,” he claimed.
